Customers are moving to the cloud, with servers, services and slowly with desktops. Recent studies show that customers moving their desktops to the cloud is not going fast but it will get there. The first movers are the ones with the easiest workloads, call centers, and task workers. The same group we saw migrate to XenApp / Terminal server initially. The rest will follow once the hurdles to move are gone. We saw that with the first move of virtualization as well, they are still moving there as we speak.
Storing profile files
With a lot of profile solution, you need file servers to store the files. Storing these files might require a couple of file servers, on-premises this is no issue you control the environment. In a cloud solution, you are paying for the server you are running + the usage of the server. These are costs that are not fixed, usages can vary per month. This might be one reason customers are not moving as fast as expected, there is more to move than just the desktop. Liquidware offers a solution for profile files and user files with the new version of Profile Unity.
Profile storage as a Service & integration of CCP providers
Liquidware has release Profile Unity v6.7.6 and with that two new features designed for Cloud solutions.
- Profile storage as a Service on Object-based storage
- Seamless save and sync user authored data to CCP providers.

Profile storage as a service on Object-based storage is offered on all major Cloud provider. The features are supported by Amazon S3, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure Blog. The integration is based on API level connections, dropping the need for SMB.
The seamless save and sync of user-authored data to CCP providers is needed in a DaaS offering as users will have data they need with their apps. Of course, business data is not always or only stored in these public storage offerings but they are used a lot. With v.6.7.6 they will allow seamless saving and syncing of user data to native cloud storage like OneDrive Business, DropBox, Amazon WorkDocs and Google Drive.
